Magis: More Education for the Educated

By: John Paul G. Bucong, 3rd Year College

For us Loyolans learning does not only end at the four corners of classrooms. Learning extends up to the different places where we go. Life for us is a continuous struggle for learning and knowledge. In this regard, I would like to tell a very useful experience during our Science Week Activity.

As part of the said activity, the LCC administration designed an environmental awareness seminar which was not like the usual seminar. This one was enjoyable and entertaining. Mr. Deogracias “Prince” Princessa was the speaker of this seminar. He talked about the beauty of Culion. He showed the different treasures of our place, both hidden and seen. We were amazed by the gigantic corals of our seas. We were amused by the life system present in our reefs. We were enlightened how lucky we are to posses those blessings.

However, there are always two sides of a coin, Mr. Princessa also exposed us to how these treasures are slowly diminishing. Several people, perhaps as their livelihood, are destroying our environment. One significant picture I remembered from that seminar is the panoramic view of our place, Culion, it was breathtaking except for a tiny piece of plastic floating in the sea. A single trash of plastic can contribute to make Culion an undesirable place. The message of the seminar is clear, “ let us make ourselves be concerned in the prevention of the destruction of our environment” so that we can heal it in our generation and soon be maintained by the next.
